Short answer
A Google Business Profile is the free listing that appears on Google Maps and in the local results for searches such as "dentist near me". For a Dubai business, the essentials are: choose the most specific primary category, verify the listing, use the exact business name and address, keep opening hours accurate including Ramadan and public holidays, add real photos, respond to every review, and link to your website with tracking so you can see the enquiries it brings.
Key takeaways
- Your primary category is the single most important setting; pick the most specific one that describes your core business.
- Use the exact business name from your trade licence, not a name stuffed with keywords.
- Hours, photos and review replies are ongoing work, not a one-time setup.
- Add tracking to the website link so Google Business Profile traffic shows separately in Analytics.
For most local searches in Dubai, the map results appear before any website. Someone searching for a clinic, a restaurant, a car garage or an accounting firm sees three businesses on a map, with ratings and opening hours, and often chooses from those without scrolling further. Your Google Business Profile decides whether you are one of the three.
The profile is free and takes an afternoon to set up properly. Most businesses do the setup once, badly, and never return to it. This checklist covers what to get right at the start and what to keep doing every month.
Part 1: Getting the fundamentals right
Business name
Use the name on your trade licence and signage, exactly as customers know it. Adding keywords or locations to the name, such as "Best Dental Clinic Dubai Marina", is against Google's guidelines and can lead to suspension. It also confuses the systems, including AI assistants, that try to match your listing with your website and other mentions.
Categories
The primary category has more influence on which searches you appear for than any other field. Choose the most specific category that describes what you mainly do: "Orthodontist" rather than "Dentist" if orthodontics is your core, "Real estate agency" rather than "Real estate consultant" if you sell and lease property. Add secondary categories for other genuine services, but do not add categories for things you do not offer.
Address and service area
If customers visit you, enter your physical address as it appears on your licence and make sure the map pin sits on the correct building. Dubai addresses often rely on building and area names rather than street numbers, so check the pin carefully. If you visit customers instead, such as a cleaning or maintenance company, set a service area and hide the address rather than listing an office that customers should not visit.
Verification
Google decides which verification methods to offer, and video verification is now common. Prepare to show your signage, your premises and evidence that you operate there. Until the profile is verified it will not appear in results, so do this early and keep your licence handy.
Phone, website and WhatsApp
Use the same phone number that appears on your website. For the website link, add tracking parameters so visits from the profile show up separately in Google Analytics, for example ?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=business-profile. If WhatsApp is your main enquiry channel, add it in the messaging options where available, and make sure someone answers it.
Part 2: Content that helps you rank and convert
Business description
Write a plain description of what you do, who you serve and where. This is read by people deciding whether to call, so clarity matters more than keyword density. Mention the areas of Dubai you serve if that is relevant.
Services and products
List your services individually with short descriptions and, where you can, prices or price ranges. This helps Google match your listing to specific searches, and it saves customers from calling to ask basic questions.
Photos
Add real photos of your premises, team and work. Listings with current, genuine photos tend to get more engagement than listings with stock images or none. Add new photos regularly rather than uploading fifty on day one and none afterwards.
Opening hours
Wrong hours are the fastest way to earn a one-star review. Set your standard hours, then use special hours for Ramadan, Eid, National Day and any other period when you open differently. Update them before the holiday, not after customers arrive at a closed door.
Questions and answers
Anyone can ask a question on your profile, and anyone can answer it. Add the questions you are asked most often, answer them yourself, and check regularly for new questions so that a stranger's guess does not become the accepted answer.
Part 3: Reviews
Reviews influence both ranking and the decision to call. A steady flow of genuine reviews matters more than a burst of them. Ask happy customers at the right moment, usually just after a successful visit or delivery, and make it easy with a direct link to your review form.
- Reply to every review, positive and negative, briefly and politely. Replies are public and future customers read them.
- Never buy reviews or offer incentives for them. Both break Google's rules and can get the profile suspended.
- If you receive a review that breaks Google's policies, report it through the profile rather than arguing in the reply.
Part 4: Monthly maintenance
- 1Check the Performance report for searches, calls, direction requests and website clicks, and compare month to month.
- 2Add at least a few new photos and a short update or offer.
- 3Reply to new reviews and questions.
- 4Confirm hours for any upcoming holiday.
- 5Check that nobody has suggested edits that changed your details. Google sometimes applies user suggestions automatically.
Common mistakes we see in Dubai listings
- Duplicate profiles created by different staff over the years, splitting reviews between them.
- A profile owned by a former employee or agency, with nobody at the business able to log in.
- Categories chosen years ago that no longer match the business.
- A website link pointing to an old domain or a page that no longer exists.

Frequently asked questions
Does a Google Business Profile cost anything?
No. Creating and managing a Google Business Profile is free. You can choose to run paid Local Services or Google Ads campaigns separately, but the listing itself has no fee.
Can a business without a physical office in Dubai have a profile?
Yes, if you serve customers at their location. Set up the profile as a service-area business, hide the address and define the areas you cover. You still need to be a real business operating in that area.
How long does it take to appear in the Map Pack?
A verified, complete profile can appear for branded searches almost immediately. Competing for general searches such as "physiotherapy Dubai" depends on your category, reviews, proximity to the searcher and the strength of your website, and it usually builds over months.
